Hello Dreamy | Hip Kit Club

Hello scrappy friends!

Today I have a layout with products from the January Hip Kit main kit! This kit had beautiful papers and ephemera from the Pink Paislee Moonstruck collection. When I first received my kit, I knew I wanted to use this paper as a background and pair it with the "dreamy" and water colored hearts die cuts. That adorable "hello" wood veneer in my title was a Hip Kit Club exclusive this month and I gave it an ombre color with my Shimmerz mists.   And the photo....this is my amazing husband....I'm so proud of him for all of his accomplishments in the fire service and this picture captures him at that moment when he is taking it all in. He is truly my hero!!  Here are close ups of the layout:

Many Faces Layout | Shimmerz Paints and Hip Kit Club

 Hello Friends!

Today I wanted to share with you one of my most favorite layouts that I probably have ever made. This was one that simply came together so easily and quickly and the end result was just as I had imagined....and being a crafter, I'm sure you understand that it's rare for that to happen! lol!!

I was inspired by the watercolor feathers that came in my January Hip Kit Club main kit. They are beautiful!  I used those as the inspiration for my background. I found coordinating Shimmerz Paints and did the packaging technique to mimic what the feathers looked like.  Here is a close up of the background and the feathers with the Shimmerz colors I used:

Once the background was completely dry, I began layering my pieces. I wanted the photo strip and the feathers as my main focus on this layout and the background to compliment the color in the feathers.  Once I had those pieces down, I used the beautiful butterfly rub on's in the kit in matching colors on the background.  To finish the layout, I used the gold Thickers for my title.
Here are some close ups of my final page:

"Truly Forever" Mixed Media Layout | Shimmerz Paints

Hello friends!

Today, I have a fun way to use up all of those extra Thickers we have laying around!
How frustrating is it to try and make titles with the "left over" letters from our Thicker packs?! And  when we run out of vowels?!  Oye!  Well, when I was flipping thru my packs, an idea came to me on how to use up those "x" 's on a colorful layout!  Why don't I take all of my left over "x" Thickers and arrange them in an "O" shape for an "XOXO" theme layout, get inky with my Shimmerz paints and finish it off with a Valentines collection to show off one of my favorite pictures of my hubby and I!!!

I'm going to show you a couple preliminary photos, but here is what the finished layout looks like:

Once I gathered all of my Thickers, I pulled out a sheet of watercolor paper, two sheets of plain white printer paper, gesso and an old brush. I cut out a large "O" from the two sheets of printer paper and adhered it to the watercolor paper.  I'm using this as a guide on where I want to put my "X" 's.  (I highly suggest using watercolor paper on this project because of the amount of weight, gesso and paint that will go on to this page.)  Once that was glued into place, I began randomly placing all 84 "X" 's from 24 Thicker packs onto the page.  Wow! Never thought I would use all of those, but yes, I did! I didn't even cover the entire "O" shape because I knew that was the space where I wanted my photo to go.  Once those were all in place, I covered them with two layers of gesso...one, because there were tons of random colors that I didn't want to show thru...plus some were cork, foam and chipboard...and two, I wanted them to be primed for my Shimmerz paints to adhere to!

Here are two close ups of the first and second coats of gesso...you'll notice by the second coat, you won't be able to see the colors of the Thickers any more:

First Coat

Second Coat

I let this sit for about 2 days before I moved on to the next step, which was applying all of the color!  I used Inklingz She Packs a Punch, original Shimmerz Paint in Bubble Gum Blast and Spritz in Ruby for my 3 pink/red colors and Inklingz Blue Lagoon for the blue color. I randomly placed each of the four colors over the letters, making sure the colors didn't run too much together. I let the color puddle in places when the water was added so it would accent the individual letters.

With the papers and embellishments I had picked out for this layout, there were gold/yellow tones in it that I wanted to incorporate as well, but I only wanted to use it as an accent color.  So to highlight the few "X" 's, I used the Texturez in Gold Mine.  Here is a close up when the paint was completely dry:

I absolutely LOVE this!

When everything was finally dry, I used one of my favorite photos of my hubby and I when we were on a plane flying to Myrtle Beach to celebrate our 12th Anniversary. He rarely takes pictures with me, so this one was definately making onto a layout!  I also pulled out an older Valentines collection that I had cardstock stickers and pocket page cards for and used some of that up as well!  I just love bringing together my older paper collections with my newer paints and mists in trendy colors for a fresh, new look!

Valentine's Day Card and Gift Tag with Shimmerz Paints

Hi everyone! Nicole here and today I have some inspiration for you to begin those Valentine's Day cards and gift tags!  Me, I always seem to wait until the last minute to make my cards, but the products made it so easy, I simply couldn't wait!
Shimmerz has loads of gorgeous pinks, purples and so many more colors in several lines fabulous for cards, but today, I'm featuring two of their newest products released, the Paste-eez and AcriTonez. I also used one of my favorite Blingz too!  Here are some close ups:

One of my favorite uses for the AcriTonez is to paint wood veneers. Because this is a self priming paint, the wood doesn't absorb all of the color like a typical watercolor paint would. The heart on the bottom right corner of the tag was painted with just one coat!

For the background of the card and tag, I used the Raspberry Sherbet Paste-eez and added a lot of water to it so I could do the "packaging" technique.  Once that dried, I used the Gold Glimmer Blingz as shimmery splatters and droplets.  I used that same Paste-eez and dry brushed a thin layer onto white card stock which I cut for a few of my hearts. I repeated this process using the Gold Glimmer Blingz for the other hearts.

I used the AcriTonez in Pinkadelic and painted the wood veneer birds just like I did for the heart on the tag. I also used a heart stencil and the Raspberry Sherbet Paste-eez to add smaller hearts to the background. Once everything was dry, I adhered all of my layers and sentiment together.

I love how I used just one color of Paste-eez and was able to create the background, stenciled hearts and a large focal image and all three are different shades of pink that work amazing together!

Here are the Shimmerz products I used:

I hope that I have inspired you to create your very own Valentine's Day cards and tags for your family and friends!

Be Transformed - Bible Layout for Shimmerz Paints DT

Hey everyone!
Nicole here today to share with you my first project for Shimmerz! I'm super excited to be a part of this amazing team with such talented designers! I love all Shimmerz products, but today I get to share with you the brand new AcriTonez paints! These pains are self-priming acrylics, which means NO GESSO needed!!!  And as a bible journaler, this product is my new best friend!

As I'm sure you know, bible pages are very very thin. I really wanted to put these new paints to the test and apply them heavy and in layers to see what they could do and see how my page held up.  I did NOT prep my pages with any products at all. I simply found the verse I wanted to journal and began painting! I applied 4 different layers of paint in three different spots and holy moly I was stunned! They dried fast and no bleeding! The only product that transferred was the ink from the stamping I did! Take a look....

I used 3 new AcriTonez colors in this layout: Edgy Eggplan, Jiven Jade and Pinkadelic. The white you see is just plain 'ole gesso. I added some bits and pieces from Illustrated faith and washi from my collection along with the stamping after everything was dry.  I also had this sheet of white and clear stripe acetate in my stash that I thought would look great between the pages, so I trimmed it down to size and added a few more Illustrated Faith cardstock stickers and the butterflies on top to give it a finishing touch! Here is the final page showing the acetate...

NOW FOR THE STUNNING PART!

Here is the back of this page....drum roll please!!!!!......

OMG! I can not believe that it didn't bleed thru! All you see is the black ink I used on my stamps! Be sure to take a look at these new paints AND the new Paste-eez in the Shimmerz Paints Shop! And don't forget, mention my name at checkout for a free product!

Scrapbook Layout: Chief in Action

Hi Everyone!

I hope everyone had a blessed Christmas and a happy New Year!
It has been quite a while since I've been able to just sit in my crafty zone and just create.
Well, needless to say, this week made up for it!  I have several layouts coming your way the next few weeks! I've been digging in my stash of stuff lately and trying to use all of my older products in new ways and I'm loving it!

This week in my house was a celebration week for us. After many many years of hard work, my husband has been appointed Fire Chief and I wanted to create a layout documenting this using one of my favorite photos of him on the job.

I recently joined the Hip Kit Club and now have access to all of their cut files...which is the cut design I have used on my layout today. For the papers behind those hearts...they are scraps I just pulled from my stash, mostly older Studio Calico papers and Dear Lizzy collections.  Here's the layout!!!!.....

I used Shimmerz Paints on the background with the packaging technique and some splatters to help give it a little more color. I also did my journaling around the outside of the circle.

I also added some thread behind my flair button to give it a little more texture.

I added chipboard elements, puffy stickers, clips and other embellishments to the page.

And lastly, I used these Shimmerz products...
Spritz in Ruby
Inklings in Miner Miner 49er
Inklings in Blue Lagoor
and Shimmerz Pain in Bubble Gum Blast
One of my new fav's is the Inklings Miner Miner 49er...it's a beautiful gold color!

Don't forget abut the Shimmerz Incentivez!!
