Rare & Treasured 12x12 Layout | Shimmerz Paints

Hello Shimmerz Fans!
Nicole here and today I have a fun 12x12 layout to share with you!

My inspiration for this weeks layout was from a photo of my husband that I have been really wanting to do a layout with, but I could never seem to find the right papers or products to use. This photo had a different shade of purple and it was hard to find something that worked. I was determined to get this layout documented, so I turned to my Shimmerz and I should have known....my Shimmerz never fail me! I love how this turned out and it's the perfect shades of purple! Here's a close up of my final layout:

I began by taking a sheet of plain white card stock and adding a layer of white gesso to it. Once it was dry, I just added layer on top of layer of Spritz Walkin' A Titght Heliotrope, Creameez Sky's The Limit and Inklingz Precious Posey.  The three of these made the most beautiful tone on tone paper!

Once all of these beautiful purple layers were dry, I turned the page over and began drawing hearts on the back.  I kept them close to being all the same size, however I did make a couple smaller ones that I used to fill in a couple gaps.  Once I had them all drawn, I cut them out and began to arrange them on my layout in a pattern that visually appeared as though they were "falling" on my page. I did add more of the Spritz Walkin' A tight Heliotrop behind the hearts using my brush and splatters to help bring out more of the darker color in my photo. Once dry, I took just the smallest amount of tape runner adhesive and stuck them down, then took this page to my sewing machine and ran a straight stitch down the middle of each heart.

Once my hearts were in place, I layered my photo, added in some word phrase stickers and small embellishments from my stash and added some purple labels for my journaling and that was it!  Here are some close ups of my final page:

Let's Stay Home - Travelers Notebook Layout

Hello lovelies!

The past few days I've been really wanting to fussy cut...not sure why, but sometimes I just get into the mood to cut pretty things! I've had a couple sheets of paper and some of the ephemera on my desk from Pink Paislee and honestly, who can resist those flowers?! I definitely couldn't! So I took some time and fussy cut a couple larger flowers from a 12x12 sheet of paper and began to layer them around a large circle ephemera piece. I let the flowers take over the page and be the focus of the right page because the colors are just so pretty! On the left page, I used a piece of light wood grain paper as my background. (I think it's a Crate Paper piece, but I'm not sure...it came from my scrap bin.) I used  a 3x4 Project life card as a layer for my photo and to add my journaling too. Because it was white, it not only helped my journaling show a bit more, but it helped tie in the colors across the pages. I used another floral ephemera from the same Pink Paislee collection for the top and bottom of the card. I needed a couple other smaller embellishments to finish it off, so I added a few more ephemera from my stash, enamel dots, clear gold phrase stickers and the cutest white hearts from Elles Studio. Here are a couple close ups of my layout:

#52Favorites - Weeks 2 and 3

Hello lovelies!

This year, I have decided to embark on a new scrappy journey and take on the #52Favorites prompt. This prompt came from Paper Issues and focuses on choosing one memory every week and document or scrap that moment.  Now, I've tried for YEARS to follow Project Life and scrap a full 12x12 page every week and I always seem to either come up short of pictures, or I have so many that I could fill several pages. There's never an in between for me! I love Project Life and I still use it to document larger events, moments, vacations, etc. I wanted to try the #52Favorites prompt in a 6x6 album though, hoping that since it's scaled down in size, I could be more successful at documenting one memory over a weeks time as opposed to a whole weeks worth of memories.

With that being said, here are weeks #2 and #3....

First up is week #2! I used the Simple Stories Winter Wonderland collection for this 6x6 layout. I used lots of layers under my photo and embraced the printed brown snowflakes on the background paper and chose those areas for my embellishment pieces.  I added in some stickers and enamel dots for the finishing touches.

For week #3, I dove into my stash of scraps and found that I still had part of my favorite Hip Kit Club floral paper left, so I fussy cut some of the flowers out and used that for the focus of my layout. I also found the "Laugh out Loud" ephemera left over from the same Hip Kit and used that as my title. The tag on the left of the photo pulls out with my journaling. I really DUG DEEP with the Liquid Pearls! I've had those forever and I honestly don't remember the last time those have been on my desk!

I realize I'm a little out of order and no, you didn't miss week #1...I'm struggling with that one and moved on to these two, which inspired me at the moment! I also have weeks 4 and 5 already printed, so they may appear before week 1 as well! lol!

If you choose to join in the #52favorites on Instagram, be sure to use the hashtag so everyone can see what you create! Thanks so much for joining me today! Have a creative week!

3D Valentine's Day Cards | Shimmerz Paints

Hello Shimmerz fans!
Nicole here and today I'm sharing two Valentine's Day cards that I created using Shimmerz products! Here is a quick look at my finished cards...

I began my cards by choosing a sheet of watercolor paper, plastic packaging and a few colors of mists and paint.  I began by taping my paper down and I just began spraying and layering color. I wasn't concerned if the colors were dry in between application because I wanted them to move and mix together.

I found that when I was creating the first card, "XOXO," I had a lot of mist on my craft sheet that didn't make it to the paper. This lead me to cut down another sheet of watercolor paper and use it to pick up what color was on my craft sheet. Those layer's of color were created on the "Love" card.

After a few layers of color on each piece of watercolor paper, I did decide to let it dry and layer more color on top.  Once all layers were dry, I chose a couple dies from my stash and began running each piece of watercolor paper thru my Cuttlebug.  On my first card, I chose a heart die and an XOXO die. I first cut the XOXO where I wanted the focal point of the sentiment to be, then followed by cutting the hearts on various angles. Once all of my pieces were cut out, I added foam squares and popped them up, making it look 3D. To finish off the first card, I splattered Inklingz in Miner, Miner 49er and added various color coordinating enamel dots all over.

The second card, which happened completely unplanned and probably my favorite of the two (funny how it seems to always turn out that way), I die cut the word "love" from the watercolor paper. I then placed all the pieces back in where I cut it so I could glue the centers of the "l," "o," and "e." Once those were glued in place, I removed the "love" die cut again.  I had cut that sentiment an additional 3 times out of regular white cardstock and glued all three of those together and the final water colored one on top, making it looked raised as well.  I then grabbed just a few stickers and thread from my stash and drew a thin black boarder around it and called it done!

These types of cards are great especially when you have a limited number of embellishments on hand. You can also use a Cricut or Silhouette to do your cutting instead of dies and a die cutting machine. Here is a final close up of the cards and products used today:
